You might have been pouring your coffee in the morning and notice dozens of ants in the kitchen out of nowhere, all over your counter!
This is a common sight in spring and luckily there’s a few things you can do yourself before calling a professional.
Why are ants in your kitchen?
Searching for a food source: Crumbs, grease, sugar, and pet food are common things to attract them.
Attracted to the moisture: Ants need a lot of moisture, it’s common to see them around sinks and pipes.
Nearby entry points: Cracks around window frames, baseboards, and pipes are great places for them to get in.
Pheromone trails: Ants leave pheromone trails for other worker ants, once a food source is found.
How to get rid of them
Remove their food sources: Clean the countertops of all crumbs and spills, regularly empty your trash, and keep your food in airtight containers.
Block possible entry points: Seal the cracks around window frames, baseboards and pipes.
Baits and perimeter treatments: Insecticidal baits and residual perimeter treatments, work slowly to completely knock down ant colonies.

Preventing future infestations
Regular perimeter treatments: Perimeter applications when the ant numbers are low can help take out colonies before they move into your home.
Trim vegetation away from the home: Dense foliage can provide food sources and can act as a bridge into your home.
Minimize moisture levels: If you have a leaky pipe or gaps that exterior water can be coming in from, have them properly taken care of.
